Top Ten Tuesday: Backlist Books | 06/11/18

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list prompt originally hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The theme for this week is:

6th November: Backlist Books I Want to Read

A backlist novel is an older novel as opposed to a newer release. I have a ton of backlist novels that are on my to-reads! The books that I count as old are ones that were released before 2015.

Ahhhhh… VILLAINS! You love to hate them. They make your spine tingle with fright, but you can’t help but feel excitement whenever they’re on the page. Here, I’ve compiled a list of my top 10 villains. (In no particular order).

*THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE BY LAUREN JAMES*

I’ve been to America but I never went into a Barnes and Noble so when I go to New York next June, I’ll definitely be going into one and never coming out!IMG_7087.pngScreen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.02.05New York, U.S.A

strand

The same story for Barnes and Noble applies to The Strand… I can’t believe how big it. I’m going to be in there for hours!IMG_7087Screen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.03.07San Francisco, U.S.A

Borderline Books is an independent bookstore in San Francisco that specialises in Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy… And because those are the main genres that I read (apart from horror), then I think that this would be the perfect bookstore for me to visit if I ever went back to San Francisco.IMG_7087Screen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.04.45Los Angeles, U.S.A

Okay, so most of the bookstores that I have on this list are in America… I’ve just realised… But anyway, The Last Bookstore can be found in L.A and has a huge variety of new and used books and records.IMG_7087Screen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.06.48 Hackney, London, England

Yay! The first British bookstore on my list! So Pages of Hackney is very high on my list of bookstores to visit because it specialises in literary fiction, politics, feminism, literary criticism essays, psychology and philosophy. These are all subjects that I study at university so I would be overwhelmed to be surrounded by all of these books if I went to Pages of Hackney.IMG_7087Screen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.09.03 Soho, London, England

gosh

I love comics, graphic novels, manga… I love it all. So I really really really need to visit Gosh! in London. On their website, Gosh! state that “[their] range of graphic novels [are] second to none, and [they’re] always striving to source new and interesting product, whatever the genre. From translated European albums to mainstream superhero antics; stylish children’s books to contemporary graphic fiction; compulsively readable manga to cutting edge small press: [they’ve] got something for everyone.”IMG_7087Screen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.09.31Chicago, U.S.A

A bookstore dedicated to feminism? YES PLEASE!! On their website, they say that “[they] are one of the largest feminist bookstores in the country, stocking more than 30,000 books by and about women, children’s books for all ages, and the best LGBTQ fiction and non-fiction” which is absolutely amazing and definitely a store that I need to go to.IMG_7087Screen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.10.44 Canada

I can’t really think of when I’ll get the chance to visit Canada, but I know that when I do, I’ll definitely be checking out Chapters Indigo. Along with books, they also sell stationery and little bits and bobs like that… I’m guessing that it’s the Canadian version of WH Smith?IMG_7087

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

I’ve made an honourable mentions section because the final two in this weeks Top 10 Tuesday are bookstores that I have already been to, but ones that I want to go to again. I love the Selexyz bookstore. As you can see from the picture, it’s a bookstore in a church and it’s gorgeous. There is a HUGE English section that has all of the new releases and old releases as well. At the very back of the church is a café, where my parents usually sit whilst they’re waiting for me to choose a couple of books.

I’m also quite lucky that I have family who live near Maastricht, so whenever we go to The Netherlands to visit my family, I ALWAYS end up going to this GORGEOUS bookstore.IMG_7087Screen Shot 2018-10-16 at 15.17.04 San Francisco, U.S.A

1200px-City_Lights_Bookstore

Last time I went to America, I was 14… 10 years later and I’m going again. Unfortunately, not to San Francisco. When I was 14 and visiting City Lights Bookstore, I didn’t really appreciate the beauty of it, because I only wanted to look for YA books. But now that I’m older and have a wider interest in books, I can’t wait to go back and explore it from a different literary perspective. IMG_7087

Future themes for Top 10 Tuesday are:

October 23: Villains (favourite, best, worst, lovable, creepiest, most evil, etc.)

October 30: Halloween/Creepy Freebie

November 6: Backlist Books I Want to Read

November 13: Bookish Items/Merchandise I’d Like to Own

December 18: Winter 2018 TBR

December 25: Books I Hope I Find Under My Christmas Tree This Morning (If you don’t celebrate Christmas, spin this to be a book wish list.)

Have you been to any of these bookstores?

Until next time…

Top 10 Tuesday: Authors I’d Love to Meet | 02/10/18

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list prompt originally hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The theme for this week is:

September 25: Authors I’d Love to Meet

There are so many authors that I would love to meet. I’ve been very lucky that I live half an hour away from Birmingham, and quite a lot of big-name authors have been there to promote their books, but there are some that I haven’t had the opportunity to meet. So here is a list of the top 10 authors that I would sell my soul to meet.

September 25: Books By My Favorite Authors That I Still Haven’t Read

I’m one of those readers that don’t read hyped, new books as soon as they come out. I’m going to be completely honest with you, I still haven’t read Illuminae or the Grisha trilogy. See? Point proved. I’m so slow. There are just so many books on my TBR pile that I just kind of read what I want and read the ‘new’ releases when I feel like it, rather than feel pressure to read them as soon as they come out so that my blog is up-to-date.

September 11: Books on your Autumn TBR

I’ve actually split this post into two sections. Because it’s September, that means that I’m back to university and that also means that I have a lot of reading to do. So the first section is going to be the books that I have to read for university, but the second half will be the 10 books that I will probably end up reading.
