Hey, look! It’s another graphic novel review! And it’s another graphic novel that I requested from Netgalley! Except this graphic novel is so much different than to what I normally read in graphic novel format, and it definitely has a different artwork style than to what I’m used to. But hey. I like branching out when it comes to graphic novels, so I wanted to give Spectacle a go!

I had to read this book for my monthly Waterstones book club, and guess what? I didn’t read it in time. I had read 80 pages, and at the book club, I was given spoilers for the rest of the book, but I wasn’t really that bothered. BUT! 1 week later, I finished it, and these are my thoughts…

Fire by Kristin Cashore

Fire by Kristin Cashore

Like with Graceling, I listened to Fire on audiobook with Emma Powell narrating it, and after loving Graceling, I was so excited to get round to reading Fire. It was only recently that I actually found out that Fire is actually a spin-off prequel to Graceling and not an immediate sequel. So it follows a completely different character, and a different storyline, but it’s set in the same world… But in a different part of the world.

“Po,” she said to his back, “where’s your coat?”

“Where’s yours?”

She moved to stand beside him. “I’m warm.”

He tilted his head to her. “If you’re warm and I’m coatless, there’s only one friendly thing for you to do.”

“Go back and get your coat for you?”

– Kristin Cashore, Graceling

I have been meaning to read this series FOR SO LONG! So when my audible account renewed and I got a credit for the month, I used it to buy Graceling on audiobook (even though I had the physical copy – I was going a bit crazy with audiobooks with that month). So as soon as I purchased the audiobook, I started it straight away, and fell into the world of the Gracelings.

Yes, I went a bit click-happy when it came to requesting Graphic Novels off of Netgalley. It’s because they’re quick reads, and I was SO behind on my Goodreads challenge, and plus, you can’t really beat a good graphic novel, can you? So this time, I opened up the Adobe Digital app on my phone, and got ready to read my latest download: a space drama that was kind of like when Obama took over from Bush…

I’ve seen so many good graphic novels get put on Netgalley, but I hardly ever request them. The first ones I ever requested were The Damned Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 by Cullen Bunn. It was a weird experience, having to squint to read the text, and having to zoom in on the images so you could look at the illustrations in all of their glorious detail, but it was still enjoyable. So now, whenever I see a graphic novel that looks interesting, I request it.

This has been on my TBR ever since it came out. I was looking forward to reading Before I Let Go, because I enjoyed reading Nijkamp’s other book: This is Where it Ends (which is about a school shooting). After reading the blurb of BILG, it sounded very cliché, but sometimes clichés can be a good thing! So I opened my Kindle app, and started reading…

Last time I read something by Lynn Weingarten was 3 years ago and it was Suicide Notes from Beautiful Girls. It was an ok book. Nothing amazing but it was entertaining. I saw that Weingarten had another book out and I was intrigued to see whether her writing style had developed and what new thrilling plots she would come up with this time. So I dived right in to Bad Girls With Perfect Faces…

I had heard so many good things about this book, and I kept seeing it on the buy one get one half price section of Waterstones. So when I saw it on Netgalley, I instantly requested it and luckily, I was sent it! As soon as I had downloaded it, I started reading it straight away and it took me three hours to read – in one sitting.

I’m kind of getting into the groove of reading poetry lately… Maybe it’s because there’s a lot of it being published that’s aimed at teenagers and young adults, maybe it’s because I fancy something a little bit different. I don’t know. Nevertheless, I was intrigued by this poet that had come by way – R.H Sin. Apparently, he is a very well known poet with many fans saying how his contemporary poetry is magical. I was eager to see if I agreed.
