The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord

The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord

So a big part of this book is religious. There is a family that has strong Christian views and the father of our protagonist is a pastor. However, I am not religious in any way, and I really didn’t mind the Christian aspect of the book, it didn’t seem in-your-face and forced upon you, it was just there as part of the character’s life and actually, it was quite interesting to read about how she tackled her life and her faith at the same time.

Sad Girls by Lang Leav

Sad Girls by Lang Leav

I used to hear a lot about Lang Leav whenever I logged onto Tumblr. There would always be a quote from one of her poems, or someone gushing about how amazing her writing was. I prefer novels over poetry, so when I heard that she had written a book, I was pretty excited to check it out and see if her writing really did live up to the hype.

The Blazing Star by Imani Josey

The Blazing Star by Imani Josey

The thing that drew me to this book was a black girl on the front cover. Let me repeat that: A BLACK GIRL ON THE FRONT COVER. I saw it and just said to myself “about bloody time.” The cover design is absolutely beautiful and I genuinely can’t get enough of it and look at the typography! Look how amazing it is! Another thing that drew me to this book is that it’s set in Egypt. This is the first young adult book that I have ever read that is set there, and I couldn’t wait to get sucked in.

Forests of the Fae: Devlin’s Door by K. Kibbee

Forests of the Fae: Devlin’s Door by K. Kibbee

Forests of the Fae: Devlin’s Door was a very quick and fast-paced read. I was actually very interested in this book as I love anything to do with magic, evil fairies and different realms. I have also just found out that this is actually the first book in a series, which is quite interesting. I don’t know much about the second book, but it would be interesting to see what it’s like and if it’s any better than this one.

Kids of Appetite by David Arnold

Kids of Appetite by David Arnold

I don’t know how I feel about this book. I think I enjoyed it? It’s a weird one… I read it in two sittings, but when I finished reading it, I didn’t really feel overwhelmed by it, I didn’t feel like I had accomplished something and I didn’t really know how I felt. But, whilst I was reading Kids of Appetite, I obviously enjoyed it because I binge-read it, it made me laugh, and the characters were interesting… See what I mean?

Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh

I was lucky enough to be sent an arc of this book from the publishers, and then I ended up winning an arc in a Goodreads giveaway! It was amazing to be able to hold this highly anticipated book in my hand; the cover was even more gorgeous in person and the arc was floppy! It was a floppy paperback, which is one of my favourite types!

Countless by Karen Gregory

Countless by Karen Gregory

It took me quite a while to read this book. Not because it was bad – far from it. It was just a very hard read but was about a subject that is very important to read and learn about. I had heard loads of hype about this book about five months ago and the hype lasted for about a week and then I didn’t hear anything after that. Well, this is me bringing back the hype, because it’s out next week and I think everyone should read this.
