Paintbrush by Hannah Bucchin

Paintbrush by Hannah Bucchin

When I read the blurb of this book, it didn’t really seem that interesting or captivating, but I went into it anyway knowing that I could surprise me, and it really did. Paintbrush is Hannah Bucchin’s debut novel and she broke into the world of YA with a bang. This is a truly remarkable debut that will stay in my heart forever.

The Way Back Home by Allan Stratton

The Way Back Home by Allan Stratton

Grab your tissues, because you’re seriously going to be taken on an emotional rollercoaster ride with this book. I found this particularly difficult to read because it hit very very close to home with the character of the Granny. I got half way and I just didn’t think I could read anymore because it was getting too personal, but I ploughed through it and I’m really glad that I did.

Nostalgic Rain: Galaxies Away by A.S Altabtabai

Nostalgic Rain: Galaxies Away by A.S Altabtabai

When I first read the blurb of this book, I thought that it was a middle-grade novel. The characters didn’t sound like they were seventeen and the plot itself sounded like it was for younger readers. Let me just clarify this right now, this book is for older readers and I would definitely not recommend it to middle-grade children because of it’s mature content and gore.

Godblind by Anna Stephens

Godblind by Anna Stephens

When I was going into this book, I thought it sounded amazing. It sounded kind of like Game of Thrones… in a way?? ??‍ It’s definitely a fantasy and it deals with different Gods, fighting over realms and family feuds. And I was exactly right. But it was just that. Fighting, blood, gore, torture, with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure.

Flight of a Starling by Lisa Heathfield

After reading Paper Butterflies by Lisa Heathfield and absolutely LOVING IT, I was so excited to read more by her, and when I was offered Flight of a Starling from the publisher, I couldn’t wait to get into it. I am literally writing this review 1 hour before it’s meant to be going live because this book… well… it put me in a massive reading slump and it took ages for me to get through it.

Paper Butterflies by Lisa Heathfield

Paper Butterflies by Lisa Heathfield

This book has ruined my life. I think I may have read it in about two hours and not once did I get up to get a drink or change reading position. I just lay down and binge-read it. The story of Paper Butterflies will stay with me for a very very long time because of how raw, moving, shocking and emotional it is.

Carnivalesque by Neil Jordan

Carnivalesque by Neil Jordan

I don’t even know what happened in the first half of this book. I picked up this book about three times and I ended up getting bored at around 22%. But I knew that I had to write this review, so that meant that I had to try and get through as much of this book as possible, so I started it again and forced my way through it… And finally, I finished it, and this is my verdict.

Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt

Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt

Orbiting Jupiter is a very short book. At 183 pages, Schmidt makes every page a rollercoaster and packs as much action and feels into each chapter as he can. It’s also probably one of the most moving books that I have ever read, so make sure you’ve got some tissues next to you when you’re reading this.
