Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

I just can’t get enough of these books! If you read my review of Stalking Jack the Ripper, you will know that I absolutely loved it. I was lucky enough to read it at the right time as well because when I finished Stalking Jack the Ripper, Hunting Prince Dracula was to be released five days later, so as soon as it was released, I bought the audiobook and started listening to it straight away.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Wow. How have I not read this book before today? Why did I just let this book sit on my bookshelf gathering dust, whilst I took a chance and read 3 stars (or less) books instead? Doing the Gothic module at university has given me the opportunity to read so many amazing books and Rebecca is definitely one of them.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

I’m quite late to the party for Stalking Jack the Ripper. I’m always a bit wary of when authors take a moment in history and turn it into a piece of fiction. But lately, I seem to be finding quite a few YA books that do this perfectly, like A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. As you’ve probably guessed, this book is about Jack the Ripper, so you’ll have to prepare yourself for a gruesome ride.

The House by Simon Lelic

The House by Simon Lelic

If someone told me that I would be reading loads of thrillers in the future, I wouldn’t have believed them. I do like reading the odd one or two here and there, but I find that thrillers tend to be a bit samey. However, The House was a different type of thriller and a type that I haven’t read before.

Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore by Matthew J. Sullivan

Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore by Matthew J. Sullivan

I’m not going to lie, when the blurb for this book was sent to me, I scan read it. I thought it would be a happy book about a bookstore and the greatness of being in one. HAHAHA. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This is a THRILLER about a suicide that takes place in a bookstore. Good job I like thrillers then, isn’t it?

S.T.A.G.S by M.A. Bennett

A YA thriller… I haven’t really seen many of these within the YA book community, so when I received S.T.A.G.S from the publisher to review, I read the blurb and I was very intrigued to see how a YA thriller would be written. There were some of the usual ‘rich people’ tropes that were in the book, but all in all, it was a very enjoyable read.

Normally, I don’t read thrillers because they seem so formulaic to me? They always feel like the same story line… or maybe I’m just reading the wrong thriller novels? When I started reading the book, it seemed very similar to In a Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware… And to be honest, it stayed similar throughout the whole book.

Nemesis by Brendan Reichs

I LOVED this book! It was just… wow… I can’t seem to get my brain together to write this review. I saw this book advertised about a year ago and I had read all of the hype that surrounded it. But when I looked on Amazon to buy it, it was £53 for the Audio CD and £35 for the hardcover. I was beat. But luckily, I waited and Nemesis was finally sent to me from the publisher so for that, I’ll be forever grateful!

City of Saints and Thieves by Natalie C. Anderson

City of Saints and Thieves by Natalie C. Anderson

The main part of this novel that stood out to me was that it was set in Congo so I knew that diversity would be very very prominent within the book. With a 90% black cast with a handful of mixed race characters and a couple of white characters as well, this book explores racism, refugees and the war against the militia within Congo and surrounding areas. Whilst all of this is happening, this book also disguises itself as an action-packed thriller/mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
