Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

A re-telling of Cinderella and geekiness… What’s not to love about the concept of this book. I am a geek. I am proud of being a geek and if anyone calls me one, I’m like ‘HELL YEAH!’ Cinderella isn’t my favourite Brothers Grimm or Disney story so I didn’t think that I would absolutely love it. But I did… I really did.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Readers all over the world were saying that if you liked The Night Circus, you would love Caraval… I loved the circus setting of The Night Circus so I was excited to read more about magical performers and I loved knowing that Caraval was about two sisters instead of two lovers. When I opened my January Fairy Loot box and saw that Caraval was the book of the month, I started reading it straight away. So yeah, this review is up 2 months after I finished the book but hey – it’s here now!

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

I cried. I actually cried at this book. I used to work in a charity shop bookstore and one day, I came across this majestic being of a book and bought it. It was £1.50 and I had no clue that it was one of the most hyped up books of the time until I went onto Goodreads and saw all of the raving reviews that surrounded it. I’m so glad that I ended up buying this book!

The Fishing-boat Picture by Alan Sillitoe

The Fishing-boat Picture by Alan Sillitoe

One of the brilliant things about studying English at university is that I come across stories that I would never normally pick up in my spare time. In one of my modules, I am studying the short story and whilst they are very quick to read, most of them have huge underlying depth and meaning.

Whilst I enjoyed reading The Fishing-boat Picture and I knew that there must be some underlying meaning, I couldn’t quite put my finger on what Shillitoe meant by this short story.

Evening’s Land by Pauline West

Evening’s Land by Pauline West

Evening’s Land by Pauline West is the kind of book that you have to read closely and with an open mind as there are plot lines that are very far-fetched and moments in the book where something doesn’t quite fit. It was an interesting read due to being mainly after life after death and questioning that, but I felt like there was too much going on at the same time.
