When I first read the blurb of this book, I thought that it was a middle-grade novel. The characters didn’t sound like they were seventeen and the plot itself sounded like it was for younger readers. When I was going into this book, I thought it sounded amazing. It sounded kind of like Game of Thrones… in a way?? ?? It’s definitely a fantasy and it deals with different Gods, fighting over realms and family feuds. And I was exactly right. But it was just that. I don’t even know what happened in the first half of this book. I picked up this book about three times and I ended up getting bored at around 22%. But I knew that I had to write this review, so that meant that I had to try and get through as much of this book as possible, so I started it again and forced my way through it… And finally, I finished it, and this is my verdict.

The thing that drew me to this book was a black girl on the front cover. Let me repeat that: A BLACK GIRL ON THE FRONT COVER. I saw it and just said to myself “about bloody time.” The cover design is absolutely beautiful and I genuinely can’t get enough of it and look at the typography! Look how amazing it is! Another thing that drew me to this book is that it’s set in Egypt. This is the first young adult book that I have ever read that is set there, and I couldn’t wait to get sucked in. …
Forests of the Fae: Devlin’s Door was a very quick and fast-paced read. I was actually very interested in this book as I love anything to do with magic, evil fairies and different realms. I have also just found out that this is actually the first book in a series, which is quite interesting. I don’t know much about the second book, but it would be interesting to see what it’s like and if it’s any better than this one. …
