Carnivalesque by Neil Jordan

Carnivalesque by Neil Jordan

I don’t even know what happened in the first half of this book. I picked up this book about three times and I ended up getting bored at around 22%. But I knew that I had to write this review, so that meant that I had to try and get through as much of this book as possible, so I started it again and forced my way through it… And finally, I finished it, and this is my verdict.

Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt

Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt

Orbiting Jupiter is a very short book. At 183 pages, Schmidt makes every page a rollercoaster and packs as much action and feels into each chapter as he can. It’s also probably one of the most moving books that I have ever read, so make sure you’ve got some tissues next to you when you’re reading this.

The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord

The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord

So a big part of this book is religious. There is a family that has strong Christian views and the father of our protagonist is a pastor. However, I am not religious in any way, and I really didn’t mind the Christian aspect of the book, it didn’t seem in-your-face and forced upon you, it was just there as part of the character’s life and actually, it was quite interesting to read about how she tackled her life and her faith at the same time.

Betwixters: Once Upon a Time by Laura C. Cantu

Betwixters: Once Upon a Time by Laura C. Cantu

I think I may have a thing for middle-grade novels… I mean, I haven’t even read that many of them… Ok, I’ve just counted how many middle-grade books I’ve read and it’s more than I thought, so I retract the previous statement. I read this book in a matter of days. I wanted to devour it in one sitting, but unfortunately, life got in the way and made sure that didn’t happen. This book is about faeries, magic, demons, and it was just pure enjoyment.

Sad Girls by Lang Leav

Sad Girls by Lang Leav

I used to hear a lot about Lang Leav whenever I logged onto Tumblr. There would always be a quote from one of her poems, or someone gushing about how amazing her writing was. I prefer novels over poetry, so when I heard that she had written a book, I was pretty excited to check it out and see if her writing really did live up to the hype.

The Blazing Star by Imani Josey

The Blazing Star by Imani Josey

The thing that drew me to this book was a black girl on the front cover. Let me repeat that: A BLACK GIRL ON THE FRONT COVER. I saw it and just said to myself “about bloody time.” The cover design is absolutely beautiful and I genuinely can’t get enough of it and look at the typography! Look how amazing it is! Another thing that drew me to this book is that it’s set in Egypt. This is the first young adult book that I have ever read that is set there, and I couldn’t wait to get sucked in.

Forests of the Fae: Devlin’s Door by K. Kibbee

Forests of the Fae: Devlin’s Door by K. Kibbee

Forests of the Fae: Devlin’s Door was a very quick and fast-paced read. I was actually very interested in this book as I love anything to do with magic, evil fairies and different realms. I have also just found out that this is actually the first book in a series, which is quite interesting. I don’t know much about the second book, but it would be interesting to see what it’s like and if it’s any better than this one.
