Illumicrate Unboxing | February 2021
Who doesn’t love a good book subscription box, eh? You get loads of bookish goodies, and when it arrives every month, it feels like your birthday/Christmas and it’s amazing. It’s like a present from you to you.
Anyway, let’s get into the unboxing!
The theme for this month’s Illumicrate was ‘The City is Ours’.
As usual with sub boxes, there is a spoiler card inside that tells you the theme for the month and also what you can find inside the box, but I never read this until I have seen every single item, as I don’t want to spoiled!
I’ve reached peak adulthood. I was ecstatic to see an umbrella in a book box. What. has my life come to? 😂 No, but seriously, I was super happy that an umbrella was included in this box because my own broke a couple of weeks ago! It was designed by ChattyNora and is inspired by Crescent City.
This. is. gorgeous! This decorative plate just blew me away when I opened it. It’s inspired by The Gilded Wolves and was designed by Fez Inkwright (@rosdottir). I was actually running out of room to put all of my earrings, as my best friend has opened up an Etsy shop, and I’ve bought loads of earrings from her! The plate now sits proudly on my windowsill full of all of my goodies!
The next item that I saw in this months box was this awesome card holder designed by DesignedbyDG and in inspired by The City We Became.
There’s one thing that I can’t get enough of, and that’s coasters. This beautiful wooden coaster was designed by No0neDesigns and was inspired by The Cemetery Boys which is a book that has been on my TBR ever since it bloody came out, and I STILL haven’t had time to get around to it!
One of the last items in the box was this artprint by DeuxDel and in inspired by The Falconer, which I’ve heard such amazing things about!
As usual, there is an enamel pin inspired by the book of the month!

Annnnnddddddd… the book of the month is a book that has been on my radar for absolutely ages, and it’s A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth. This edition has sprayed edges and is signed by the author.
The “ironborn” half-fae outcast of her royal fae family.
A tempestuous Fury, exiled to earth from the Immortal Realm and hellbent on revenge.
A dutiful fae prince, determined to earn his place on the throne.
The prince’s brooding guardian, burdened with a terrible secret. For centuries, the Eight Courts of Folk have lived among us, concealed by magic and bound by law to do no harm to humans. This arrangement has long kept peace in the Courts—until a series of gruesome and ritualistic murders rocks the city of Toronto and threatens to expose faeries to the human world.
Four queer teens, each who hold a key piece of the truth behind these murders, must form a tenuous alliance in their effort to track down the mysterious killer behind these crimes. If they fail, they risk the destruction of the faerie and human worlds alike. If that’s not bad enough, there’s a war brewing between the Mortal and Immortal Realms, and one of these teens is destined to tip the scales. The only question is: which way?
Wish them luck. They’re going to need it.
The March theme has also been revealed which is: Fighting Spirit!
The book of the month for March has sprayed edges, a hidden cover, and is signed by the author. I don’t actually have any idea what book this is, so that just makes it even more exciting!
