Top 10 Tuesday: Favourite Books of 2020 | 29/12/20
Yes, I’m here again with another Top 10 Tuesday post. I’m trying to get back into taking part in the weekly challenge as I love how it brings the book blogging community together!
This week’s theme includes one of my favourite things to do: talk about books that I’ve absolutely loved. I haven’t got reviews for all of them yet, as I have a backlog of ones that I need to write, but ones that I have reviews for are linked 🙌🏻.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list prompt originally hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
The topic for this week is:
Favourite Books of 2020
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This was the year of audiobooks for me, and there were only a handful of books that I read physical copies of such as The Mask Falling.Â
Sadie was such a beautiful, harrowing story that I definitely recommend listening to the audiobook for (if you can), because it’s told in the style of a podcast. Yes, I finally got around to reading the Six of Crows duology. It’s been years, but finally, 2020 was the year that I took them off my TBR pile, dusted them off, and read long whilst listening to the audiobook. Allegedly is definitely in my top 5 favourite books for this year. It was so dark, yet beautifully told, and one that I know I will be re-reading multiple times.
The next lot of book is a mix of old and new. I remember that I had finished reading The Diviners series on audiobook, and I wanted something kind of similar, so I asked one of my best friends, who recommended the Lockwood & Co. series. So, I downloaded the first audiobook, gave it a listen, and fell in love straight away. It’s a middle-grade ghost/mystery series that has such a good mixture of humour and suspense.
Girl, Woman, Other was a book that I had to read for my MA course. I had been meaning to read it anyway, but my masters just gave me another reason to. The writing style is quite odd, but the story itself is so brutally honest about being a woman, and about being a woman of colour. After I had finished reading Girl, Woman, Other, I remember that I had just recently received The Shadows Between Us in a Fairy Loot box, so I decided to read that straight away. I remember reading it during the first lockdown, and I was sat in the park just reading it, and it’s such a nice, peaceful memory.
What books have you loved this year? Let me know in the comments below, and happy TTT!Â
Until next time…

Sadie is such a uniquely told story, and yes, audiobook is perfect for that one. I ended up having to switch to a format where I read Sadie’s parts and listened to the podcast parts, for reasons I won’t get into here. But I agree that it’s a book worth reading.

Allegedly was such an interesting read.
My post.
Crooked Kingdom was a great sequel. I’m glad you enjoyed it so much.
The King of Crows was on my list this week too! I’m so excited to read The Mask Falling, it’s been so long since The Song Rising.

This is the year I really started listening to audiobooks, too, although I only listened to a handful of them. I need to find some good ones to check out for 2021.
Happy TTT!

I love Sadie! I have Kingdom of the Wicked and need to read that. I also hope to read Before the Devil Breaks You in the Diviners series next month.

Great list! I read Sadie this year too, and loved it – well, I don’t know if loved is the right word, it was a tough read, but very good and well-done!
