March Wrap Up | 2020
Hey, guys and welcome to my March wrap up! I’ve read quite a lot this month due to having to read stuff my my Masters, and well, the current situation. I’m trying to tackle my TBR slowly but surely.
Anyway, let’s get on with the wrap-up!
Throw Me to the Wolves by Patrick McGuinness: this is such a good book inspired by the real-life murder of Joanna Yeates in 2010. It follows two very interesting storylines and explores the world of media. 4.5/5
The Quickening Maze by Adam Foulds: Probably THE MOST confusing book I have ever read. 1/5
Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo: This book is pure genius. Just be careful of triggers for rape, abuse, domestic abuse. 5/5
Possession by A.S. Byatt: I AM SO GLAD that I have finally finished this book and that I never have to read it again. 2/5
Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo: This was such an interesting piece of fiction about a Korean woman and the troubles she faces throughout her life. 4/5
The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller: When I read Daughter of the Pirate King/Siren Queen by Levenseller, I knew that I would always love her novels, and I was right. This book was just perfection. I loved everything about it. I need more. Now. 5/5
Spectacle by Jodie Lynn Zdrok: Spectacle had a very interesting concept of a girl who can see how someone died. The main character was quite infuriating at first, but she got better. There are some good f/f friendships in here as well. 4/5
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff: Yes, I am FINALLY getting around to reading this series. Don’t judge me. I’m only page 21 at the time of writing this, so I’m hoping that I can make good headway with this by the time March is over.
Blood Countess by Lana Popović: This is quite different to what Popović has written before, but anything horror/bloody/historical, instantly has my attention. I’m reading this on Kindle, so it’s going to take me a little longer to read it as I don’t read on there as often as a physical book.
Well, you can totally tell the the U.K. is on lockdown… This is a lot of TV. Also, you can also tell that I got Disney Plus!
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (Netflix): this show is one of the most uncomfortable shows I have ever seen. Major trigger warnings for abuse, child abuse. 4/5
Love is Blind (Netflix): Very cringey in places, but oh my god I have found my new favourite power couple. 4/5
Castlevania Season 3 (Netflix): I don’t think that it was as good as the first two previous seasons, but I was glad to be back with some of my favourite ever characters. *Yes, I’m looking at you Trevor Belmont*. 4/5
Tiger King (Netflix): The memes on Twitter describe this show better than I think anyone could. It is one of the craziest documentaries that I have ever seen. 4/5
High School Musical 1&2 (Disney Plus): Look, HSM will always be childhood favourites. And… the second one is my favourite. I still cry at ‘Gotta Go My Own Way’. 4.5/5
Camp Rock 1&2 (Disney Plus): I never liked Camp Rock as much as HSM, but I still watched them and thoroughly enjoyed them. I can’t believe how young everyone looks. IT MAKES ME FEEL SO OLD! 4/5
Locke & Key (Netflix): I’ve read a few of the graphic novels that this TV show is based on, so as soon as the show came out, I knew that I had to watch it. It’s so strange, and amazing and just… I love it. 4.5/5
Buzzfeed Unsolved: True Crime Season 6 (Amazon Prime): My favourite people are back! Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara are just quality comedians and hosts. I absolute love their True Crime and Supernatural shows and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve re-watched them. 5/5
Pandemic (Netflix): I don’t know why I watched this for. It was the completely wrong time to watch a documentary about preventing a flu pandemic. It’s just scary that it was released on Netflix maybe a month for everything happened… 4/5
The Purge 1&2 (Netflix): Look, I’m a massive wimp, okay? I hate horror films/TV shows, especially jumpy things. But, I’d heard that The Purge films weren’t that bad, and they really aren’t. The second one is DEFINITELY better than the first though. 3/5 & 4/5
John Wick (Amazon Prime): I tried to watch this film three times but I just couldn’t get past the dog being killed in the first 10 minutes. So, I decided to skip after it and just watch the rest of the film. It was… very shooty? Like, I KNEW that there was going to be loads of fighting (which I usually love) but there just seemed too much… 3/5
The Purge: Election Year (Amazon Prime): I have no idea why I’m on a ‘Purge’ binge. I guess I just find the concept very interesting (and wrong). Election Year was probably as good as the second one, and I’m so glad that Frank Grillo was back, because I love him so much. 4/5
The First Purge (Amazon Prime): This might actually be my favourite Purge film? I love how it explores the feelings of a community. It deals with harder topics such as ‘how are the less fortunate meant to cope during the Purge?’ 4.5/5
Hustlers (Amazon Prime): I have heard SO. MANY. amazing things about this film, that I thought it was about time that I give it a go (since I’ve got nothing better to do). Jennifer Lopez is brilliant in this. Lizzo, Cardi B… ugggghhhhh. I love the female empowerment at the beginning of the film when they’re all in the dressing room. It gets dark though. Very dark. 4/5
- Well… the world is basically fucked (excuse my language).
- I don’t have a job anymore (well, I do… But I just can’t go to it.)
- Getting 80% of my wages basically means I’m broke.
- I could go on and on and on about how shit things are right now
- On the plus side, I thought I was ready to get back into dating, and then when I DO decide that, I’m not allowed to leave the house. Oh, world how you like to mess with me.
- Look, I’m just trying to remain my pessimistic, sarcastic self during this whole thing.
What have you guys been up to this month? Let me know in the comments.
Until next time…
