Illumicrate Unboxing | February 2020
This is the third Illumicrate box that I’ve ever received. The first one was the Muse of Nightmares edition box, and the second was the limited edition box of The Cruel Prince. With this being the first ever monthly subscription box by Illumicrate that I’d opened, I was quite excited to see what they had in store for me, as I have loved every single item that they’ve included in their limited edition boxes.
The theme for this month was ‘Sparks Fly’.
As usual with sub boxes, there is a spoiler card inside that tells you the theme for the month and also what you can find inside the box, but I never read this until I have seen every single item, as I don’t want to spoilt!
The first item that I saw in the box was this gorgeous metal tin which is inspired by Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco (which is ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SERIES EVER!) and was designed by Chatty Nora.
I think I actually gasped when I saw these coasters. A Darker Shade of Magic is (like Stalking Jack the Ripper) one of my favourite series, and just seeing my fave characters on coasters makes me so happy. The coaster on the left shows Lila and Kell, and the coaster on the right shows Alucard and Rhy. The coasters were designed by Lilith.
This pop socket literally couldn’t have come at a better time. I had just ordered a new phone, and it arrived an hour before my Illumicrate box, so now I have this gorgeous pop socket inspired by Sorcery of Thorns on the back of my new phone. It was designed by Angela de Vito, and I just think it’s perfect!
If it’s one thing that I’ve learned about the Illumicrate boxes, it’s that they always include good quality items that you would never normally find in other book subscription boxes. This cute little rollerball perfume inspired by The Winner’s Curse was designed by Madame Alchemie and it smells so nice!
RRP: £7.00
The last bookish item that was included in this months box was this bookmark clip that is inspired by Serpent & Dove. It’s so small and adorable. Even though it’s beautiful, I can’t see me using it because I’m always so scared that the metal clip will rip the pages of the book… I don’t know. Maybe I’ll give it a go and pray that nothing tears. This bookmark was designed by Chloe Lee Hughes.
And HERE IT IS! The book of the month was The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski. This edition has an exclusive cover, sprayed edges and is signed by the author.
Also included was a letter from the author!
Where Nirrim lives, crime abounds, a harsh tribunal rules, and society’s pleasures are reserved for the High Kith. Life in the Ward is grim and punishing. People of her low status are forbidden from sampling sweets or wearing colors. You either follow the rules, or pay a tithe and suffer the consequences.
Nirrim keeps her head down and a dangerous secret close to her chest.
But then she encounters Sid, a rakish traveler from far away who whispers rumors that the High Caste possesses magic. Sid tempts Nirrim to seek that magic for herself. But to do that, Nirrim must surrender her old life. She must place her trust in this sly stranger who asks, above all, not to be trusted.
Thank you to Illumicrate for a box filled to the brim of bookish goodness. I can’t wait for next months box which is themed ‘Worlds Collide’. After reading the description of the book, I’m not quite sure what the book is straight away, but I’ll do some digging on Goodreads soon.
Illumicrate have shared that next months book is an exclusive hardcover edition (the UK has only released this book in paperback), it will have exclusive sprayed edges, a ribbon bookmark and will have a signed bookplate. They have also said that there will be a mug included in next months box.
Believe me guys, you do not want to miss out!
