YALC TBR | 2019

YALC TBR | 2019

I absolutely loved YALC last year, and I knew that I definitely wanted to try and make it every year. I had a bit of a stressful time this year with booking my tickets for YALC, as I soon found out that YALC and my graduation are happening on the same weekend. But I decided to defer my graduation until January and make YALC the priority.

It is an expensive weekend, to be honest. It was £60 for the ticket and then I had to book a hotel for the three nights, and then obviously there are going to be stalls where I’ll want to buy things, so it’s going to get very expensive. BUT! It only happens once a year, so I don’t mind. Anyway, here is the full overview of what I’m looking forward to, and my reading plans.

Akemi Dawn Bowman: Akemi was at YALC last year, but I didn’t go and see her because I hadn’t read any of her books. But I’m hoping to read both of her books before July. Fingers crossed.

Derek Landy: I have been a massive fan of Derek Landy’s work ever since I was younger. Skullduggery Pleasant has been one of my favourite series for absolutely ages, so I’m excited to finally meet him.

Dhonielle Clayton: Dhonielle was at YALC last year, and I managed to meet her and get my copy of The Belles signed. I haven’t bought The Everlasting Rose yet because it’s a slightly larger size than The Belles, so I need to wait for the smaller version to be released before I buy it.

Holly Bourne: Again, Holly Bourne was at YALC last year and I got to meet her. I’m a massive fan of Holly’s work and I love every single novel that she has written. I can’t wait to meet her again this year.

Holly Jackson: Jackson’s book A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was advertised a lot last year, and there was even a chance to win an ARC of it. Now, a year later, she’s attending YALC properly.

Justina Ireland: Dread Nation was a book that I was instantly drawn to, and yet still haven’t read. #storyofmylife

Karen M. McManus: Both of her books: One of Us is Lying and Two Can Keep a Secret were crazy popular with YA readers, so I’m glad to have her at YALC. I’ve only read One of Us is Lying though…

Kesia Lupo: I managed to snag an ARC of Lupo’s debut novel We are Blood and Thunder on NetGalley and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I need to get myself a physical copy though so I can get it signed.

Lauren James: Lauren is another author that was at YALC last year, and it was at YALC that she revealed the title and the cover of the book that she was working on at the time: The Quiet at the End of the World. The book is finally out and I’m so excited to meet her again.

Lisa Heathfield: Heathfield has written one of my favourite books of all time: Paper Butterflies. Getting the chance to meet her and get that book signed is… Just amazing.

M.A. Bennett: When I read S.T.A.G.S, I really enjoyed it, and even though I haven’t read The Island, it’s a book that’s definitely on the top of my YALC TBR pile.

Natasha Ngan: I actually managed to get an ARC of Girls of Paper and Fire at YALC last year, and as soon as YALC had finished, I started reading it, and it’s one of my favourite books of all time. I’m hoping we have the chance to win an ARC of the sequel… That would be epic.

Renée Ahdieh: Even though I enjoyed reading Flame in the Mist, I haven’t read Smoke in the Sun yet, but it’s still exciting to have the chance to meet Renée and gush to her about how much I love her writing style!

Samantha Shannon: Samantha is another author that was also at YALC last year, but unfortunately, I never got the chance to meet he because the queue was CRAZY LONG! I’m not looking forward to dragging Priory around with me, it’s going to kill my back *laughs and cries at the same time*

Sara Barnard: I met Sara last year and she signed a couple of my books, and NOW SHE’S BACK to celebrate the release of her companion novel to Beautiful Broken Things.

V.E. Schwab: I don’t even want to think about how long the queue is going to be for Victoria… I’ve never met her before so I really need to think about which books I’m going to take with me as I know she won’t have time to sign them all!

Looks like I’ve got A LOT of reading to do… I know that I won’t read all of the ones that I want to, because I genuinely cannot read that fast and I’m in a bit of a reading slump at the moment, which is absolutely awful… But I’m going to try my best to get to as many of these books as possible so that I can meet the authors, gush about their books and get them signed. Obviously, I would love to be able to have read EVERY.SINGLE.BOOK of the authors that I’m excited to see, but I know that it’s just not realistic.

I’ve written a post about the author line ups and also which panels are going to be on this year, if you want to check it out, and YALC have also posted the schedule onto their website:  http://www.londonfilmandcomiccon.com/index.php/zones/yalc/yalc-schedule

&& if anyone is going to YALC this year, let me know in the comments so I can see who my fellow people are!
