My Year in Books | 2018
In June/July, I actually did a ‘My Year (so far) in Books‘ post, so that I could share with you where I was regarding my Goodreads challenge. Now that it’s the end of the year, I can look back and see whether any my statistics changed and whether I reached my goal or not *spoiler: I didn’t*
So, my goal for 2018 was 150, but when I realised that it wasn’t going to happen, I lowered it to 100. I read 119 books in 2017 so I thought that was quite attainable. Turns out that it wasn’t. Don’t get me wrong, 87 books is still a lot, but I can’t help but think that I could have read more if I wasn’t scrolling through Twitter for most of my day retweeting pictures of Kpop stars. (see pictures of all of the books that I read this year at the bottom of this post!)
However, seeing that I read 26,623 pages IS INSANE! I never think about the total number of pages that I read, but knowing that it’s a 1/4 of a million. DAAAAYYUUUMMMMM.
I actually had to read The Yellow Wallpaper for my Gothic module at university, and I only had to read that one short story, which is definitely shorter than 64 pages… So I don’t really think that counts as a book because it’s a short story; which means I don’t really know what the shortest book that I read was.
I can’t believe how big European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman is. I listened to the audiobook and that was 24 hours long. YUPPPPP. A WHOLE DAY. I think I listened to it in 3 days? I’m not sure. I got the physical version of the book for my birthday and when I saw how massive it was, I’m glad that I listened to the audiobook because I know that reading the physical version would have scared me.
Well, there’s no surprise. Although actually… Yes, I am. I thought that more people would have read The Hate U Give, but then TOG HAS been out for much longer.
Hunters was a graphic novel that I requested off of Netgalley. It wasn’t very good.
I don’t know whether this is really high or not? I did read a lot of ‘average’ books in 2018 though. But then again, I read a lot of amazing ones as well. So this isn’t surprising.
Another one that isn’t a surprise at all. The Hate U Give is a masterpiece and if there is anyone out there that hasn’t read it yet, please do. You will not regret it. At all.
And here we have it, the final total. I was 13 books behind reaching my goal which makes me very sad. I could have read loads of graphic novels or manga, to be honest, so that I could reach the goal, but for the past 2 months, I have been in the biggest reading slump ever and I didn’t even want to pick up a book. I love how it says ‘better luck in 2019’. Cheeky sods.
For 2019, I’ve set my goal to 80 books, so let’s see how it goes with that. I might have to make the goal bigger or even smaller, but we’ll see how the year goes!
