The three questions (Ws) are:
1.) What are you currently reading?
2.) What did you recently finish reading?
3.) What do you think you’ll read next?
So without any further ado, let’s get on with it, shall we?
Title: Shatter Me
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Publication Date: 10th February 2012
Publisher: Electric Monkey
Pages: 336
Genre: YA Fantasy
Series: Shatter Me #1
I’m currently on page 217 of this. I went to the monthly book club meeting at my local Waterstones (where this was the book of the month) having read only 122 pages. I’d been at university and been really busy over the month, so I didn’t have a lot of time to get around to it. However, I really enjoyed the bits that I did read, and as soon as I got home from book club, I continued to read it and ended up on page 217. The only thing that I’m really not sure about is the writing style. I know that Mafi puts a disclaimer at the beginning about the prose but it’s just really jarring to read. I just don’t think that the strikethroughs are necessary and writing the numbers as actual numbers and not the word format. But those are my only issues at the moment. It’s a really enjoyable read and I’m hoping to finish it today so that I can move onto the sequel soon.
I have a curse
I have a gift
I am a monster
I’m more than human
My touch is lethal
My touch is power
I am their weapon
I will fight backJuliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Title: Hero at the Fall
Author: Alwyn Hamilton
Publication Date: 1st February 2018
Publisher: Faber & Faber
Pages: 528
Genre: YA Fantasy
Series: Rebel of the Sands #3
I’m about 37% of the way through this at the moment. I don’t know what’s the matter with me… I normally listen to audiobooks really quickly and get through about 2 a week, but with Hero at the Fall, I just don’t have the motivation to read it. I don’t know why though because it’s not like it’s boring (because it really isn’t!) So maybe I won’t read Shatter Me today… Maybe I’ll listen to more of this.
When gunslinging Amani Al’Hiza escaped her dead-end town, she never imagined she’d join a revolution, let alone lead one. But after the bloodthirsty Sultan of Miraji imprisoned the Rebel Prince Ahmed in the mythical city of Eremot, she doesn’t have a choice. Armed with only her revolver, her wits, and her untameable Demdji powers, Amani must rally her skeleton crew of rebels for a rescue mission through the unforgiving desert to a place that, according to maps, doesn’t exist. As she watches those she loves most lay their lives on the line against ghouls and enemy soldiers, Amani questions whether she can be the leader they need or if she is leading them all to their deaths.

Title: A Canticle for Leibowitz
Author: Walter M. Miller. Jr.
Publication Date: 4th September 1997
Publisher: Orbit
Pages: 368
Genre: Science Fiction, Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian
Series: St. Leibowitz #1
I’M STILL ONLY 32 PAGES INTO THIS BOOK… So it’s the same update as last week: slow going, A LOT of religious words that I have to keep looking up, writing chapter summaries so it’s such a staccato process…
So far, the book is quite intriguing. Nothing much has happened though… Brother Francis has found a big hole in the ground and he’s gone down it. That’s it. That’s what happened in the first chapter. We’ll see if it gets any better! I hope so though because I hate reading boring books for uni.
In a nightmarish ruined world slowly awakening to the light after sleeping in darkness, the infant rediscoveries of science are secretly nourished by cloistered monks dedicated to the study and preservation of the relics and writings of the blessed Saint Isaac Leibowitz. From here the story spans centuries of ignorance, violence, and barbarism, viewing through a sharp, satirical eye the relentless progression of a human race damned by its inherent humanness to recelebrate its grand foibles and repeat its grievous mistakes.

Title: Beneath the Citadel
Author: Destiny Soria
Publication Date: 9th October 2018
Publisher: Abrams Books
Pages: 480
Genre: YA Fantasy
Series: N/A
I finally finished it! And WOW it did not let me down. I did find the first little bit of the book to be quite slow, but once we got into the action (about 20% of the way through), the story really kicked off and I was immersed completely in the story. I am currently writing my review for this, so once I have, I will link it after the synopsis.
In the city of Eldra, people are ruled by ancient prophecies. For centuries, the high council has stayed in power by virtue of the prophecies of the elder seers. After the last infallible prophecy came to pass, growing unrest led to murders and an eventual rebellion that raged for more than a decade.
In the present day, Cassa, the orphaned daughter of rebels, is determined to fight back against the high council, which governs Eldra from behind the walls of the citadel. Her only allies are no-nonsense Alys, easygoing Evander, and perpetually underestimated Newt, and Cassa struggles to come to terms with the legacy of rebellion her dead parents have left her — and the fear that she may be inadequate to shoulder the burden. But by the time Cassa and her friends uncover the mystery of the final infallible prophecy, it may be too late to save the city — or themselves.

Title: Reign of Mist
Author: Helen Scheuerer
Publication Date: 10th September 2018
Publisher: Talem Press
Pages: 552
Genre: YA Fantasy
Series: The Oremere Chronicles #2
I wasn’t actually planning on reading this straight away, it just sort of happened. I realised that Reign of Mist wasn’t on audiobook so I was really disappointed (it comes out in November but I didn’t want to wait that long to read it), so I went to see how much it was to buy, and I noticed that it was free with a Kindle Unlimited account. So, I got it and I read it in 2 days. I love this world, I love the characters, I love Helen’s writing style. Everything about this series is just perfection, and I can’t believe I have to wait a year for the final book. *insert crying face here*
The cruelty of the capital and the power-hungry King Arden have scattered Bleak and her companions across the continents.
On the run in a foreign land, Bleak finds herself tied to some unexpected strangers. When the answers she yearns for are finally within reach, she must face the hard truths of her past, and take her fate into her own hands before it’s too late.
Meanwhile, secrets and magic unravel as a dark power corrupts the realm. Bleak’s friends are forced to decide where their loyalties lie, and who, if anyone, they can trust.
But one thing is certain: war is coming, and they must all be ready when it does.
Title: The Lantern’s Ember
Author: Colleen Houck
Publication Date: 11th September 2018
Publisher: Hodder Paperbacks
Pages: 416
Genre: YA Fantasy, Paranormal
Series: N/A
So one day, I made a spontaneous trip to my local library (I actually vlogged the whole process and the video will be up on my YouTube soon!), and I saw this book in the teen section. Now, The Lantern’s Ember has been on my radar for so long, I mean… JUST LOOK AT THE COVER!! IT’S GORGEOUS. I was going to buy the book, but for some reason, I didn’t, and well looky-here, it was at the library. So I snatched it up and took it home. I think after I finish Shatter Me, this will be the next one that I read, and I CAN’T WAIT!
Welcome to a world where nightmarish creatures reign supreme.
Five hundred years ago, Jack made a deal with the devil. It’s difficult for him to remember much about his mortal days. So, he focuses on fulfilling his sentence as a Lantern—one of the watchmen who guard the portals to the Otherworld, a realm crawling with every nightmarish creature imaginable. Jack has spent centuries jumping from town to town, ensuring that nary a mortal—or not-so-mortal—soul slips past him. That is, until he meets beautiful Ember O’Dare.
Seventeen, stubborn, and a natural-born witch, Ember feels a strong pull to the Otherworld. Undeterred by Jack’s warnings, she crosses into the forbidden plane with the help of a mysterious and debonair vampire—and the chase through a dazzling, dangerous world is on. Jack must do everything in his power to get Ember back where she belongs before both the earthly and unearthly worlds descend into chaos.

It’s nice to keep you guys updated on what I’m reading, and even though I do an end-of-the-month wrap-up, you never get to see what I’m reading during the week.
Until next time…
