Top 10 Tuesday: Favourite Villains | 23/10/18
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list prompt originally hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The theme for this week is:
October 25th: Best Villains
Ahhhhh… VILLAINS! You love to hate them. They make your spine tingle with fright, but you can’t help but feel excitement whenever they’re on the page. Here, I’ve compiled a list of my top 10 villains. (In no particular order).
*THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE BY LAUREN JAMES*
Dolores Umbridge – Harry Potter by J.K Rowling
How can you not do this list and NOT include Dolores Jane Umbridge? She is – in my opinion – worse than Voldemort… Not by much, but she’s worse. If she would have been my teacher in school, I would have dropped out immediately and never gone back.
Sloan – This Savage Song by Victora Schwab
This guy terrified me whilst I was reading This Savage Song and Our Dark Duet. He was so evil and bloodthirsty that I shivered every time he appeared on the page.

King Leck – Graceling Trilogy by Kristin Cashore
Even thinking about this guy disgusts me. He tortures, manipulates, kills… He’s honestly one of the worst people that I’ve ever had to read about.
Scythe Goddard – Arc of Scythe series by Neal Shusterman
You know what I said about Sloan being bloodthirsty? Well, when it comes to Scythe Goddard, multiply that by 1000 and you’ve got him. Everything that Goddard does is evil, and it doesn’t help that Shusterman is such a fantastic writer. Shusterman has created one of the best villains that I have ever had the pleasure (?) of reading.
The Alchemical Society – The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club by Theodora Goss
So this isn’t just one character, it’s an organisation… And they are a group of scientists who believe that doing experiments are humans are completely fine. They cause so much hurt and pain for the main protagonists of this series and I hate them for it because I love all of the strong women that are in this book.

Read my review of European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman
King Arden – The Oremere Chronicles by Helen Scheuerer
I’ve read both of the books in this series within a couple of months, and the one thing that I can’t get out of my head is how HORRIBLE Arden is. He enjoys manipulating people, and then there’s also the problem of genocide.

J – The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James
So, at first everything seems to be completely fine when it comes to J, but then we soon learn that he’s a complete and utter bastard. It gave me a massive shock when his true character was revealed and it made me sick and evil he was.

The Teddy Bear – The Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart
You guys think I’m joking about putting a teddy bear on this list? NOPE. This teddy was was completely F***** UP! Has anyone seen the teddy bear episode of Supernatural? It kind of reminded me of that, but with red eyes and goes around murdering people.

Mrs Danvers -Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
She may not seem evil, but she is such a manipulative character that completely undermines our protagonist’s confidence that she’s evil in her own way.
The Other Mother – Coraline by Neil Gaiman
Fun story: I’m actually dressing up as The Other Mother for Halloween. The makeup is going to take me hours but I’m excited because this character scared the s*** out of me when I was younger (and still does!)

Fantastic list, Umbridge made mine too! She really is such a despicable villain.
