First Impression Friday | 12/10/18
If you’re not aware of what First Impression Friday is, it was created by Joe at JW Martin – Storeys of Stories where, every Friday, he talks about his first impressions of his current read. I actually think that I’m going to do this bi-weekly because, at the moment, I don’t think that I’m going to be reading books that quick due to university.
I also think that – where Joe has said that he will just come back to his FIF post and link his reviews – I’m going to come back to the post, and just write if I was wrong or right. So I have my predicted ratings, and then I’m going to write my actual rating and a couple of sentences on what I actually thought. But I will link my full review as well (once it’s written!)
Title: The Traitor’s Game

Series: The Traitor’s Game #1
Nothing is as it seems in the kingdom of Antora. Kestra Dallisor has spent three years in exile in the Lava Fields, but that won’t stop her from being drawn back into her father’s palace politics. He’s the right-hand man of the cruel king, Lord Endrick, which makes Kestra a valuable bargaining chip. A group of rebels knows this all too well – and they snatch Kestra from her carriage as she reluctantly travels home. The kidnappers want her to retrieve the lost Olden Blade, the only object that can destroy the immortal king, but Kestra is not the obedient captive they expected. Simon, one of her kidnappers, will have his hands full as Kestra tries to foil their plot, by force, cunning, or any means necessary. As motives shift and secrets emerge, both will have to decide what – and who – it is they’re fighting for.

At the time of writing this blog post, it’s actually the Tuesday and I started reading The Traitor’s Game this morning. I’m about 2 hours into it at the moment and so far, the narrator is annoying me so much because her pacing seems really off. I don’t know whether it’s the pacing of the novel or the pacing of the narration, but it just doesn’t seem right to me.
However, the story in itself is quite interesting. I know I’m 2 hours into it but I don’t know what that equates to page-number-wise, but I know it’s not that far. The story is about a high-born lady realising that her country and their leader isn’t that great and there’s loads of twists and turns like you would expect in a fantasy. The character of Kestra seems very annoying so far, but I’m hoping that she grows on me during the remainder of the book as I hate it when there’s a main character that I don’t connect with. But overall, it’s just not catching my attention…
My predicted rating:
I’ll be back next week (or in 2 weeks…) to share my first impressions of the book that I am reading at the time!
Until next time…

Ugh. Nothing worse than an annoying narrator! Hopefully the story stays interesting enough to pay off. Thanks for playing along with First Impression Friday again this week!
