First Impression Friday | 28/09/18
If you’re not aware of what First Impression Friday is, it was created by Joe at JW Martin – Storeys of Stories where, every Friday, he talks about his first impressions of his current read. I actually think that I’m going to do this bi-weekly because, at the moment, I don’t think that I’m going to be reading books that quick due to university.
I also think that – where Joe has said that he will just come back to his FIF post and link his reviews – I’m going to come back to the post, and just write if I was wrong or right. So I have my predicted ratings, and then I’m going to write my actual rating and a couple of sentences on what I actually thought. But I will link my full review as well (once it’s written!)
Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamilton (Rebel of the Sands #3)
Nearly a year has passed since Amani and the rebels won their epic battle at Fahali. Amani has come into both her powers and her reputation as the Blue-Eyed Bandit, and the Rebel Prince’s message has spread across the desert – and some might say out of control. But when a surprise encounter turns into a brutal kidnapping, Amani finds herself betrayed in the cruellest manner possible.
Stripped of her powers and her identity, and torn from the man she loves, Amani must return to her desert-girl’s instinct for survival. For the Sultan’s palace is a dangerous one, and the harem is a viper’s nest of suspicion, fear and intrigue. Just the right place for a spy to thrive… But spying is a dangerous game, and when ghosts from Amani’s past emerge to haunt her, she begins to wonder if she can trust her own treacherous heart.
So this is the third and final book in the Rebel of the Sands series and I’m so sad… I love this whole world and I love the characters. I started reading this series when Rebel of the Sands first came out in the U.K in 2016 and I’ve been following it ever since and I’ve also met Alwyn Hamilton quite a few times as well!
I’m actually listening to this on audiobook. The first time that I read the first two books, I read the physical copies, but when I was re-reading Rebel of the Sands and Traitor to the Throne so that I could read Hero at the Fall, I listened to them on audiobook and they were actually really good! My first impressions of this is that I love it. It’s a bit of a slower beginning than the previous two books, but I think that’s because it’s slowly building up to this massive battle that’s going to happen. I’m hoping to finish it by the end of September, but I don’t think that’s going to happen because I’ve got 8 hours left, and I don’t have that much free time in the next few days!
My predicted rating:
I really am hoping that I enjoy this book because I loved the previous two so there is a lot of pressure for Hamilton to live up to the other two! I’ve said that my predicted rating is a four because 1) I’m going to be sad that the series is finished 2) I always have quite low expectations for the final books because it has a lot of things that it needs to wrap up
I’ll be back next week (or in 2 weeks…) to share my first impressions of the book that I am reading at the time!
Until next time…
