Fairy Loot September Unboxing | 2018
Welcome back to ANOTHER Fairy Loot unboxing! If you don’t already know, I now also have a YouTube channel where I have also filmed an unboxing as well as writing this blog post. So, for this month the theme was ‘Starcrossed Swoons’ and when the theme was announced last month, I knew EXACTLY what the book of the month was going to be – so I had to cancel my pre-order. But then it turned out that it was too late to cancel the pre-order because it had already been dispatched… So, I had to send the book back. But even though I knew what the book was going to be, I was still so excited to see what items would be included in the box!
Let’s get on with the unboxing…
Another Fairy Loot box means another month of gorgeous artwork which is designed by Taratjah! The artwork for this month is absolutely amazing and sums up the book and theme perfectly. On the back of this card is all of the information about each item, but I never look at this as it contains spoilers as to what is in the box, and I WANT TO BE SURPRISED!
Candles also make a regular appearance in the Fairy Loot boxes. I’m always so apprehensive to burn them because they always look and smell amazing. This months candle was created by Nerd Poured Candle and is inspired by Bella and Edward from Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. I had to have a little chuckle to myself when I saw that it was Twilight themed because I don’t think that I’ve owned anything Twilight-related since I was 14/15. But the candle smells absolutely amazing, and has a very strong apple scent which I love! NPC is a companion company to Geeky Clean, and they do specific monthly boxes for NPC.
I’m going to be completely honest with you now… I don’t think that this item is meant to be in this box? When I saw it, I checked the spoiler card to see who made it, and it wasn’t on the spoiler card. So I’m waiting for other Fairy Loot unboxings to go live on other people’s blogs so that I can see whether they received this as well… If it wasn’t supposed to be included, I’m going to send it back to Fairy Loot, because it’s not fair if I’ve received an extra item!
BUT! That being said, I do love this item. It’s shea butter, but I’m not 100% sure what book it’s inspired by? But I have a feeling it’s from the Shadow and Bone trilogy? Please do correct me if I’m wrong…
The next thing that I saw in the box were these Courts of Prythian inspired shoeleaces. Shoelaces have never been included in a Fairy Loot box before, and it’s always cool to see an brand new item be introduced. I haven’t read ACOTAR series, so I don’t really get the reference, but once I do read them, then I’ll defintely be using these shoelaces for my Converse.
I do love a good notebook… I have so many lying around my bedroom, whether they are university notebooks, notebooks with novel ideas down, random drawings… So I always love it when I get a new one. This is a gorgeous notebook that says ‘no matter where we are, we’ll always share the same sky, we’ll always be guided by the same constellation’, and it’s a quote taken from The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
I think that apart from Twilight, The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare was the first fantasy series that I ever read and found myself fully immersed in, so it holds a very special place in my heart, hence why I absolutely LOVE this Love Rune Pin Badge designed by the very talented Lauren at FictionTea. I can’t wait to pin this on the cork bunting that I received in a Fairy Loot box a few months ago.
IT’S AN APRON!!! I don’t know when I’m ever going to use this because I don’t cook (and I very rarely bake), but I love the design of this so much. The quote says ‘dream up something wild and improbable. Something beautiful and full of monsters’ and this is my favourite quote from Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor , so I’m so glad to have it designed onto this apron… Maybe it will inspire me to bake more? Who knows…?

A couple of months ago, this tea towel was included in the Fairy Loot box, but unfortuantely, the typography was printed backwards. Fairy Loot sent an email saying that they would send a new tea towel out and this is the replacement! It says ‘her spine was steel, her heart was armour, her eyes were fire’, and this is a quote taken from And I Darken by Kiersten White.
I think that this is the first time that matches have been included in a Fairy Loot box as well? I’m not 100% sure. But again, these were designed by FictionTea! Lauren has been so busy this month designing so many wonderful items for us lucky readers. The quote on the matchbox says ‘temper us in fire, and we grow stronger. When we suffer, we survive’ and it’s a quote taken from City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare.
The last thing I saw in this box before the promotional items were this GORGEOUS character-artwork postcards designed by Taratjah. The characters are (from top-left, to bottom-right): Amar and Maya from The Star Touched Queen, Lazlo and Sarai from Strange the Dreamer, Cassian and Nesta from A Court of Thorns and Roses, Emma and Julian from The Dark Artifices, and Feyre and Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Now we move on to the promotional items that Fairy Loot always include in their boxes. The first promotional item that I saw was this gorgeous bookmark that is promoting Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce.
Arram Draper is a boy on the path to becoming one of the realm’s most powerful mages. The youngest student in his class at the Imperial University of Carthak, he has a Gift with unlimited potential for greatness–and for attracting danger. At his side are his two best friends: Varice, a clever girl with an often-overlooked talent, and Ozorne, the “leftover prince” with secret ambitions. Together, these three friends forge a bond that will one day shape kingdoms. And as Ozorne gets closer to the throne and Varice gets closer to Arram’s heart, Arram begins to realize that one day soon he will have to decide where his loyalties truly lie.

The next promotional item was this Muse of Nightmares postcard promoting Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this book because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!
In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep.
Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice—save the woman he loves, or everyone else?—while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she’s capable of.
As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel’s near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: Must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead?

The third and final promotional item in the box was for Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare which is the last book in The Dark Artifices trilogy. It’s an exclusive sneak peek at the first few chapters, but since I haven’t read Lady Midnight or Lord of Shadows yet, I’m in no rush to read this sneak peek.
What if damnation is the price of true love?
Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the blight that is destroying the race of warlocks.
Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

And here it is! The book of the month! This months book was Mirage by Somaiya Daud. I realised what this book was going to be a couple of days before my pre-order arrived, so it was too late for me to cancel my pre-order because it had already been dispacthed. But once my pre-order arrived, I sent it back because I knew that the Fairy Loot copy was going to have an exclusive cover. The U.K cover is teal, the U.S cover is purple, and as you can see, the Fairy Loot cover is grey (which I actually like the best). It’s got GORGEOUS purple spray painted pages, and is actually signed by the author. So, instead of having a bookplate that you can stick inside the book, Somaiya Daud has physically signed all the copies of Mirage that were sent in the Fairy Loot boxes.
In a star system dominated by the brutal Vathek empire, eighteen-year-old Amani is a dreamer. She dreams of what life was like before the occupation; she dreams of writing poetry like the old-world poems she adores; she dreams of receiving a sign from Dihya that one day, she, too, will have adventure, and travel beyond her isolated moon.
But when adventure comes for Amani, it is not what she expects: she is kidnapped by the regime and taken in secret to the royal palace, where she discovers that she is nearly identical to the cruel half-Vathek Princess Maram. The princess is so hated by her conquered people that she requires a body double, someone to appear in public as Maram, ready to die in her place.
As Amani is forced into her new role, she can’t help but enjoy the palace’s beauty—and her time with the princess’ fiancé, Idris. But the glitter of the royal court belies a world of violence and fear. If Amani ever wishes to see her family again, she must play the princess to perfection…because one wrong move could lead to her death.

Along with the book, Fairy Loot included a letter from the author that also acts as character artwork of Amani and Idris from Mirage. There was also a little something extra! Also included was a Mirage bookmark that matched the colour of the book which was brilliant!
As always, Fairy Loot included the Fairyscoop newsletter which includes an interview with the author and also the information for next months box (which sounds A-MAZ-ING!), and then they also include a bookmark that has the artwork of the month printed on the front and then ‘Fairy Loot / September 2018 / ‘Starcrossed Swoons’ printed on the back!
Thank you to Fairy Loot for another month of bookish goodness. I can’t wait for next months box which is themed Beautiful Deceptions! I knew straight away what the book was for October because I’ve already read it and IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. It’s one of the best books that I have ever read.
It has also been released that there is going to be an exclusive cover of the book of the month, that there’s going to be spray painted pages, and it’s also going to be physically signed by the author.
Fairy Loot have said that there will be an exclusive item inspired by The Cruel Prince by Holly Black included in the October box and they also said that “it’s one of [their] favourite items ever”, which is very exciting.
Don’t forget to check out the Fairy Loot website to see pictures and details of their past book boxes and to also see their price plans for subscriptions. You can find all of my unboxings on my unboxings page…
Believe me guys, you do not want to miss out!

I didn’t even notice that the body butter wasn’t on the spoiler card! That said it’s lush, I’ve been using it as a hand cream haha.
Gorgeous unboxing photos 🙂

Oh ok then! Good to know someone else had it as well then! I didn’t know whether it was just a mistake and someone had accidentally put it in. I haven’t used it yet, but I definitely want to. It smells amazing.
xx
I’m really enjoying using it, it melts at exactly my body temperature, I love the plastic free packaging too. And yes it is inspired by the Grisha Trilogy 🙂
