Fairy Loot August Unboxing | 2018

Fairy Loot August Unboxing | 2018

Welcome back to ANOTHER Fairy Loot unboxing! If you don’t already know, I now also have a YouTube channel where I have also filmed an unboxing as well as writing this blog post. So, for this month the theme was ‘Mutinous Pirates’ and when the theme was announced last month, I knew EXACTLY what the book of the month was going to be – so I had to cancel my pre-order. But even though I knew what the book was going to be, I was still so excited to get a pirate themed box!

Let’s get on with the unboxing…

Another Fairy Loot box means another month of gorgeous artwork which is designed by Taratjah! The artwork for this month is absolutely amazing and sums up the book and theme perfectly. On the back of this card is all of the information about each item, but I never look at this as it contains spoilers as to what is in the box, and I WANT TO BE SURPRISED!

The first item that I saw in this months Fairy Loot box was this canvas pouch with the Fairy Loot logo on it, and then as soon as I saw it, I knew exactly what the item was going to be. And yes, inside was a water bottle that says on it ‘why is the rum always gone?’ and it’s taken from… You guessed it! Pirates of the Carribean! I mean… I don’t drink alcohol so  I mean… I wouldn’t wonder why the rum has gone, but it’s good to have a water bottle so I can take it to work.

The next item that I saw was this sugar scrub that was made by Geeky Clean. Geeky Clean is a supplier that regularly makes things for Fairy Loot and I AM SO HAPPY FOR IT because I love their products. This month, they have made a Sweet Peat Botanical Magic Sugar Scrub that is inspired by this months book. It smells amazing as well, so I’m really excited to use it.

RRP: £7.00

Candles also make a regular appearance in the Fairy Loot boxes. I’m always so apprehensive to burn them because they always look and smell amazing. This months candle was created by Nerd Poured Candle and is inspired by Elian from To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. I can’t quite pinpoint the smell of this candle, but it does smell really good, and I LOVE the green glitter on top of the candle. NPC is a companion company to Geeky Clean, and they do specific monthly boxes for NPC.

Next, I saw this pirate wax seal which has been bought to us exclusively by Fairy Loot. I think this is such an amazing thing to include in the box, as it goes so perfectly with the theme. I have no idea when I’m going to use this because I don’t send letters, but it’s a good thing to have in case I do in the future!

As they do for every month’s box, Fairy Loot included a promotional item. This month, the item was promoting King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo. It was a chapter sampler which also doubled up as a poster. They’ve been doing this quite a lot lately – making the chapter samplers also act as posters – and it’s so good because it means that I can stick them on my bedroom wall.

Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war—and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.

Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried—and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.

I’ve seen quite a few of these hanging flags floating around the blogosphere, and I’ve always wanted one for myself, so I’m glad to finally have one! The flag says ‘when people say impossible they usually mean improbably’, and it’s a quote taken from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I’m guessing you’ve seen the spelling error on the flag? Yupp… This is the second month that Fairy Loot has included an item that has had a defect. Last month, the lettering on the tea towel was backwards, and then this month, there is an extra ‘s’ in ‘usually’. Fairy Loot has already emailed people who have bought the box saying that they are going to be sending out replacements – which is brilliant customer service – but I can’t help but think that the people who check the items before they go in the box aren’t really doing a fab job of it…

BUT, it’s such a beautiful design with beautiful material and I can’t wait to hang it on the edge of my bookshelf.

The last item that was included in the box before the book of the month was this magnet that was designed by Miss Phi, and the quote is taken from Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller. The quote says ‘Oh the ridiculous things one has to do when one is a pirate.’ I absolutely loved Daughter of the Pirate King and I am so happy to finally have some bookish goodies from the book. I also love Miss Phi’s designs so that’s just a bonus.

And here it is! The book of the month! This months book was These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch. I knew exactly that this was going to be the book of the month because there’s not that many August releases that have pirates in them. This is a Fairy Loot exclusive. It’s got GORGEOUS green spray painted pages, and is actually signed by the author. So, instead of having a bookplate that you can stick inside the book, Sara Raasch has physically signed all the copies of These Rebel Waves that were sent in the Fairy Loot boxes.

Adeluna is a soldier. Five years ago, she helped the magic-rich island of Grace Loray overthrow its oppressor, Argrid, a country ruled by religion. But adjusting to postwar life has not been easy. When an Argridian delegate vanishes during peace talks with Grace Loray’s new Council, Argrid demands brutal justice—but Lu suspects something more dangerous is at work.

Devereux is a pirate. As one of the outlaws called stream raiders who run rampant on Grace Loray, he pirates the island’s magic plants and sells them on the black market. But after Argrid accuses raiders of the diplomat’s abduction, Vex becomes a target. An expert navigator, he agrees to help Lu find the Argridian—but the truth they uncover could be deadlier than any war.

Benat is a heretic. The crown prince of Argrid, he harbors a secret obsession with Grace Loray’s forbidden magic. When Ben’s father, the king, gives him the shocking task of reversing Argrid’s fear of magic, Ben has to decide if one prince can change a devout country—or if he’s building his own pyre.

As conspiracies arise, Lu, Vex, and Ben will have to decide who they really are . . . and what they are willing to become for peace.

Along with the book, Fairy Loot included a letter from the author that also acts as character artwork of Adeluna and Devereux from These Rebel of Waves. And then there was also something extra! There was a small postcard that was double sided and had some illustrations of a couple of the plants that are in the book.

As always, Fairy Loot included the Fairyscoop newsletter which includes an interview with the author and also the information for next months box (which sounds A-MAZ-ING!), and then they also include a bookmark that has the artwork of the month printed on the front and then ‘Fairy Loot / August 2018 / ‘Mutinous Pirates’ printed on the back!

Thank you to Fairy Loot for another month of bookish goodness. I can’t wait for next months box which is themed Starcrossed Swoons! At first, I had no idea what the book of the month is, but then yesterday, I realised what the book was but then it was too late to cancel my pre-order of this book. So it looks like I’m going to have two copies of this book.

It has also been released that there is going to be an exclusive cover of the book of the month, that there’s going to be spray painted pages, and it’s also going to be physically signed by the author.

There has also been a supplier reveal. Fairy Loot announced on their Instagram that one of the suppliers for the September box is Literary Life Co. and that the item included is a large textile item that has never been included in a Fairy Loot box before. So that means that it’s definitely not a pillowcase. Which means that it could be a tapestry? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out!

Don’t forget to check out the Fairy Loot website to see pictures and details of their past book boxes and to also see their price plans for subscriptions. You can find all of my unboxings on my unboxings page

Fairy Loot has also released some information about future boxes:

  • October book has an exclusive cover, sprayed pages and is actually signed by the author

Believe me guys, you do not want to miss out!

    1. I know! Especially because it’s been 2 months in a row… I just hope they get better at spotting the issues in the future x
