My Year (So Far) in Books
With only 180 days left in the year (yikes!) I have read 53 books and 15, 302 pages and I’m 22 books behind schedule. Oh, the joys. It’s actually very depressing seeing that I’m so far behind my reading goal of 150 books. We’re over half way through the year and I’m only 35% completed. My plan was to read SO MUCH over the summer holidays before I go back to university in September, but I’ve been in such huge reading slumps. Maybe i just need to read loads of manga and graphic novels to catch up?
See! I have to look at this every time I open my Goodreads page and it just puts me on a downer for the rest of the day. I think the reason I’m so behind is because of all my university assessments I’ve had to do, life has just gotten in the way (read my life update in my June wrap up to learn more), and I had the huge reading slump.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, seeing that I’ve read 15, 302 pages is actually insane… It’s so weird to think that all the books that I’ve read this year amount to that many pages. Last year I read 119 books and had a total of 32, 000 pages I think? So I definitely want to try and beat that if I can.
Technically, I listened to The Beauty of Darkness on audiobook, but it was still 18 hours long! Which is crazy. I didn’t realise that it equated to 679 pages until I actually bought the physical copy and saw how much of a monster it is. And The Yellow Wallpaper? Well, IT IS a short story. I had to read it for university and I was actually surprised by how long (?) the short story was!
The most popular book that I read last year was The Help by Kathryn Stockett, and this year (so far), it’s Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I honestly didn’t think that it would be the most popular book, I thought that Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier or The Yellow Wallpaper would have been. But obviously not.
This also seems surprisingly high? To be honest, I have read A LOT of amazing books so far this year, and I’ve given a lot of books 5 or 4 stars, but just seeing that my average is 3.8 makes me think that I should go back and change some ratings and see if I’ve rated some books too high?
No surprise here at all. The Hate U Give is an amazing book.
Yay for Rebecca being my first review of the year. This was another book that I had to read for university. It’s going to be interesting to see what my last review is of the year so I can see how different they are.
So that’s my year so far in books… I really do hope that I manage to reach (or even surpass) my Goodreads reading goal for this year, but who am I kidding? It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. I guess we’ll see at the end of the year when I check back in again to show you how I actually got on!
