May 2018 Wrap Up
Hey, guys and welcome to my May wrap up! I always do them on my YouTube channel but I never considered doing it on my website because I didn’t really know what to include on here apart from what books I’ve read (obviously). But after some deliberation, I came up with a couple of ideas to give you guys some insight as to what’s going on in my life. This one is a little bit longer than my April wrap up as I watched A LOT more television and films!
Anyway, let’s get on with the wrap up!
Graceling by Kristin Cashore (Graceling #1) (review)
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw (review)
Nemesis by Brendan Reichs (Nemesis #1) (review)
Genesis by Brendan Reichs (Nemesis #2) (review)
Fear of the Dark, Vol. 1 by Andy Diggle (review)
Letter 44, Vol. 1: Escape Velocity by Charles Soule (review)
Spectacle, Vol. 1 by Megan Rose Gedris (review)
Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman (Arc of Scythe #2) (review of Scythe)
Fire by Kristin Cashore (Graceling #2)
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore: this is the third and final book in the Graceling trilogy and it’s so much better than Fire. I’m listening to it on audiobook and it’s 17 hours long which is crazy, but I’ve listened to about 6 hours so far and I’m loving it. I love how we’re back with characters who we already met in Graceling and I love the character of Bitterblue!
Big Bones by Laura Dockrill: Yes, I’m still reading this! It isn’t taking long because it’s rubbish, far from it! It’s actually very enjoyable, it’s just that I’m reading other books at the same time (as you can see) and I’m more engrossed in the other books. I’m currently at 35% and I’m hoping to finish it by the end of the month.
The Empress by S.J Kincaid: So I’m currently on page 89 of this. I only started it a couple of days ago when I was on holiday, and I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s good to be back in the action with Nemesis and Tyrus and the book started, diving straight back into the action.
Carrying on with iZombie: Yeah… this season still isn’t doing it for me. It’s still enjoyable and funny, but the main storyline just isn’t as good as previous seasons and the whole different personality an episode is getting a bit tiring. I also heard that there’s going to be a fifth season (and also the last), so it will be interesting to see where the producers take this show. 3.5/5
Finished watching Sword Art Online: Yupp, this show was great. I love every single episode, and even though there’s a second season, I’m a bit apprehensive to watch it because season 1 ended in the perfect way. I don’t know, I’ll see! It’s on Netflix anyway, so if I decide to watch it, then at least it’s accessible. 4/5
Carrying on with Riverdale: THAT SEASON FINALE WAS INSANE! Oh my life… This show is so tense. I mean… the acting isn’t the best but I love every single one of the characters and CHONI! I LIVE FOR CHONI. I’m ready for season 3. Even though we won’t get it for another year. Dammit. 4.5/5
Blue Exorcist: Kyota Saga: The second season of Blue Exorcist was just as good as the first season! I loved being back with Rin and the other exorcists. I loved being back in the world and watching new relationships play out. 4.5/5
The Commuter: I watched this with my family in Holland and it was actually quite enjoyable. I do love a good action film. The Commuter gave off serious Murder on the Orient Express vibes – it was very very similar – but it was still a good film. It was a typical Liam Neeson film. 4/5
Bleach: I watched season one and then I’m half way through season 2. I’m really really enjoying it so far. The storyline is very enjoyable and I love all of the characters! I know that there are loads of seasons, but I will definitely be carrying on with it. S1: 4/5
Carrying on with Lucifer: Again, another AMAZING SEASON FINALE! And you know what’s really hurt me? The fact that the show hasn’t been renewed. HOW?! How can this show not be renewed???????!!!!!! It’s amazing. It’s bloody brilliant. And I need to know what happens next. Season 3 ended on such a massive cliffhanger, and I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WITH CHLOE AND LUCIFER! Another channel better pick up this show otherwise I’ll riot. 5/5
Shadowhunters: So I realised that it was about time that I caught up on this show. The Mortal Instrument books are some of my complete and utter favourites. I watched this show when it first came out, but I just stopped watching it for some reason. So in May, I watched season 1 and season 2, and I’m halfway through season 3. It’s actually quite enjoyable! There are bits that are slightly cringe, but it’s still TV that I can happily binge-watch. S1: 3.5/5, S2: 4/5
Tomb Raider: I also watched this with my family in Holland. I was a bit apprehensive to watch this as it’s just another reboot of old Hollywood films. But I decided to give it a go because I really like Alicia Vikander. It was actually quite a good film. It wasn’t brilliant, but it had all the action sequences and the romance… Maybe there’ll be a sequel? 3.5/5
Deadpool 2: I went to the cinema on my own for the very first time to see Deadpool 2. It was like the first film, in the sense where it was absolutely hilarious and explicit. The storyline itself was ok… Not the best, but it was still ok. The ending was very ambiguous, but hey, it’s a Marvel film. When aren’t those film ambiguous? 3.5/5
Life is just pure shit. My Grandma passed away in the middle of May, then I went to Holland to go and visit family, and then whilst I was in Holland, my uncle passed away. 2 deaths in the matter of a week. Both losses haven’t hit me yet, they don’t seem real. I’m just trying to keep myself busy with TV, books, and family. I’ve finished my second year of university, so that means I’m back at work full time so I can save up loads of money to buy a flat with my best friend.
So yeah… May has just been utter dreadful.
And there we have it! There is my May wrap up. 9 books for the month is pretty good going. I know that 3 of them were graphic novels but I read a handful of books so I’m happy with that. I’m still 16 books behind my Goodreads schedule though!

I also recently read Graceling, which I really enjoyed but didn’t love? I’ve been meaning to get back into watching the Shadowhunters TV show but the first season had me cringing quite hard but I’ve been hearing that it gets a lot better?
So awful to hear about your grandma and uncle, that so so sad. My thoughts are with you and your family <3
I get what you mean. I just finished Fire and Bitterblue (books 2 and 3) and Bitterblue is definitely my favourite!
Yeah Shadowhunters was cringe at first but it does get better! There’s still a few cringe worthy moments but not as many!
Thank you, that means a lot ❤️
