Fairy Loot May Unboxing | 2018
Welcome back to ANOTHER Fairy Loot unboxing! If you don’t already know, I now also have a YouTube channel where I have also filmed an unboxing as well as writing this blog post. So, for this month the theme was ‘Save the Kingdom’ and when the theme was announced last month, I had no idea what the book was going to be. That’s what i love about having the book subscription service – I just love being surprised!
Let’s get on with the unboxing…
Another Fairy Loot box means another month of gorgeous artwork which is designed by Taratjah! The artwork for this month is absolutely amazing and sums up the book and theme perfectly. On the back of this card is all of the information about each item, but I never look at this as it contains spoilers as to what is in the box, and I WANT TO BE SURPRISED!
The first thing that I saw when I opened up the box was…. another box! I didn’t have the faintest idea what is was, all I knew was that it smelt amazing. So I opened it up, and there was this cute bath bomb inside in the shape of a castle! This bath bomb is inspired by the book of the month!
RRP: £3.50
The next item that I saw was this lib scrub from Geeky Clean which was inspired by the Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson. I nearly screamed when I saw this, because I’ve only just recently read The Remnant Chronicles and I absolutely loved all three books! There were three different types of lip scrub sent out: Morrighan, Venda and Dalbreck. I would have preferred to get Venda but oh well! The lip scrub smells so good, and I can’t wait to use it.
RRP: £7.00

I sort of have an obsession with coasters… and Evie Seo’s designs… So this was a perfect combination, and a perfect item for me!
YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY COASTERS!
A lot of people tab their books, and I am not one of those people. It just seems like so much effort? I mean… what if your tabs weren’t by you when you were reading and you came across some awesome quote? Would you have to stop reading, go and get the tabs and then continue? It just seems too much trouble. When there’s a quote I like, I take a picture of it, if there’s something particularly interesting, I take a picture of it… The idea of tabbing books is interesting and I HAVE been tempted in the past to do it but… I don’t know. ANYWAY! These gorgeous Wyrdmark tabs are inspired by Throne of Glass and are perfect for all of you who like tabbing xD

Fairy Loot actually included tea that I would drink! Most of the time, book subscription boxes include all sorts of teas and guess what? I DON’T DRINK BERRY TEAS or any other kind of fancy tea. I only drink ‘normal’ English Breakfast tea, and FAIRY LOOT HAVE INCLUDED IT IN THIS MONTHS BOX! AND I AM SO HAPPY! So tonight, I’m going to open this bad boy up and have myself a nice brew. Sounds like a good idea.
RRP: £6.99
Another amazing item! I know this is just a promotional item, but I don’t even care. I’m so excited for Legendary by Stephanie Garber to come out in 8 DAYS! Fairy Loot included a tarot card in their box in a way to promote Legendary. I don’t know whether they included different tarot cards in the boxes, but I received THE ARACLE. I know just the spot on my wall where this can be stuck up!

Fairy Loot included another promotional item in this months box, and it’s for Smoke in the Sun by Renée Ahdieh which is the second book in the Flame in the Mist series. To be honest, I pretty bummed out about the cover change. The original cover of Flame in the Mist was beautiful, and even though I’m happy that publishers have decided to have a beautiful Chinese girl on the covers, I will miss the gorgeously designed version of Flame in the Mist. And it just means that now I have a cover change halfway through the series which IS NOT GOOD AT ALL FOR MY OCD. (I’m not even joking about this, I do actually have OCD.) BUT, it doesn’t matter (I think), because this is a gorgeous bookmark so… it’s all fine… right?

This is the item that I knew that was going to be included in the box! (I’m not psychic, Fairy Loot said so in their email). I was so excited to have another book sleeve because I do tend to carry around more than one book with me, and even though the last book sleeve Fairy Loot included in their box is big enough to fit 2 books in, I’m always scared that I’m going to bend the cover of one of the books when I’m trying to squash the other one in. Kinda defeats the purpose of the book sleeve. So yes, I am so glad that I have another one. This was designed by Reverie and Ink and is inspired by An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir and the quote says “fear is only your enemy if you allow it to be”.
And here we have it! The book of the month! I actually laughed out loud when I opened up the Fairy Loot pouch because as the same as last month, I had actually pre-ordered Onyx and Ivory! So as soon as I had finished filming my unboxing, I went onto Amazon and cancelled my pre-order. What’s even more amazing though about this edition of the book is that IT’S EXCLUSIVE. IT HAS BLACK SPRAY PAINTED PAGES and any other edition of the book doesn’t have this. Fairy Loot keep upping their game and it’s so amazing. Also in the pouch were a signed bookplate, a sticker, and a letter from the author (which also doubles as a character art print!)
They call her Traitor Kate. It’s a title Kate Brighton inherited from her father after he tried to assassinate the high king years ago. Now Kate lives as an outcast, clinging to the fringes of society as a member of the Relay, the imperial courier service. Only those most skilled in riding and bow hunting ride for the Relay; and only the fastest survive, for when dark falls, the nightdrakes—deadly flightless dragons—come out to hunt. Fortunately, Kate has a secret edge: she is a wilder, born with magic that allows her to influence the minds of animals. But it’s this magic that she needs to keep hidden, as being a wilder is forbidden, punishable by death or exile. And it’s this magic that leads her to a caravan massacred by nightdrakes in broad daylight—the only survivor her childhood friend, her first love, the boy she swore to forget, the boy who broke her heart.
The high king’s second son, Corwin Tormane, never asked to lead. Even as he waits for the uror—the once-in-a-generation ritual to decide which of the king’s children will succeed him—he knows it’s always been his brother who will assume the throne. And that’s fine by him. He’d rather spend his days away from the palace, away from the sight of his father, broken with sickness from the attempt on his life. But the peacekeeping tour Corwin is on has given him too much time to reflect upon the night he saved his father’s life—the night he condemned the would-be killer to death and lost the girl he loved. Which is why he takes it on himself to investigate rumors of unrest in one of the remote city-states, only for his caravan to be attacked—and for him to be saved by Kate.
With their paths once more entangled, Kate and Corwin have to put the past behind them. The threat of drakes who attack in the daylight is only the beginning of a darker menace stirring in the kingdom—one whose origins have dire implications for Kate’s father’s attack upon the king and will thrust them into the middle of a brewing civil war in the kingdom of Rime.

As always, Fairy Loot included the Fairyscoop newsletter which includes an interview with the author and also the information for next months box (which sounds A-MAZ-ING!), and then they also include a bookmark that has the artwork of the month printed on the front and then ‘Fairy Loot / May 2018 / ‘Save the Kingdom’ printed on the back!
Thank you to Fairy Loot for another month of bookish goodness. I can’t wait for next months box which is themed Rebels in Ballgowns! I have no clue as to what the book is going to be. All I know about this book is that it’s actually going to be a July release instead of a June one, and that it’s going to be an exclusive hardcover edition (UK only has paperback, but US has hardcover – and the Fairy Loot edition will have the gorgeous UK cover and special details under the dust jacket!) Don’t forget to check out the Fairy Loot website to see pictures and details of their past book boxes and to also see their price plans for subscriptions. You can find all of my unboxings on my unboxings page…
Fairy Loot has also released some information about future boxes:
