My Top 10 Audiobooks

My Top 10 Audiobooks

Audiobooks are an amazing way to read books. You can listen to them whilst cleaning your room, cooking/baking, ironing, walking, driving… I LOVE THEM, and 2020 has been the year where I’ve really relied on audiobooks to get through my TBR.

I use Audible where I pay £7.99 a month for one credit, which allows me to buy any audiobook – whether they are £25 or £10. Or Audible do an offer where you can buy 3 credits for £18 which has always helped me out when I want to have more than one credit a month.

Over the past year, I’ve listened to so many amazing audiobooks, and some *not so great* ones, but here are my top 10 audiobooks OF ALL TIME!

Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco (Narrated by Nicola Barber)

This series was one of the first-ever audiobooks that I ever listened to and Nicola Barber’s narration of the first book was so beautiful that it made me fall in love with audiobooks. I remember listening to it on the train on the way to university and smiling at myself at Thomas Cresswell’s banter with Audrey Rose. Every time a book came out in the series, I pre-ordered the audiobook with one of my credits, because there was no way that I was going to miss out on Barber’s narration.

Stalking Jack the Ripper

Hunting Prince Dracula

Escaping from Houdini

Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson (Narrated by Emily Rankin, Ryan Gesell, Kim Mai Guest, Kirby Heyborne, and Ann Marie Lee)

This series quickly became a favourite due to the narration of the multiple points of view with their own narrators. Kim Mai Guest has always been one of the narrators that I look out for, as her voice is so soothing, and she does all kinds of characters so well! These are quite thick books as well, so instead of carrying around these tomes, listening to the audiobooks definitely saved my back from breaking under their weight!

The Kiss of Deception

The Heart of Betrayal

The Beauty of Darkness

His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman (Narrated by Philip Pullman, and full cast)

Ok, so I have always had mixed feelings about this series. Part of me enjoyed the story, and part of me just couldn’t handle it anymore. However, what kept me powering through this trilogy was the cast of narrators. There’s a different narrator for each character and it made it so magical, and definitely kept my motivation up to finish the trilogy.

Northern Lights

The Subtle Knife

The Amber Spyglass

The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club trilogy by Theodora Goss (narrated by Kate Reading)

I remember the first time that I came upon this series. I was looking for something magical, witty, and amazing. I read the synopsis of the first book on Goodreads, listened to a sample of the audiobook on Audible, and purchased it straight away. I know that I seem to say this a lot, but this trilogy quickly became one of the most enjoyable series I’ve read, and the narration was perfection. Kate Reading did an amazing job of voicing the different characters, that it didn’t seem like it was the same person narrating the whole thing.

The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter

European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman

The Oremere Chronicles by Helen Scheuerer (Narrated by Angéle Masters)

What more can I say about this series that I haven’t said already? I’ve been raving about this series for a couple of years now, and Helen Scheuerer deserves so much more hype! Angéle Masters does a fantastic job of bringing this brilliant fantasy world to real life, and I just… *chefs kiss*… cannot get enough.

Heart of Mist

Reign of Mist

Sadie by Courtney Summers (Narrated by Rebecca Soler, Fred Berman, Dan Bittner, Gabra Zackman, and full cast)

This book hasn’t received awards for the sake of it. It’s perfect, and if I were you, I wouldn’t read the physical copy if you have the option to listen to the audiobook. I’ve done both, and I can safely say that this book was meant to be listened to. It has a podcast feel to it, that takes you on such a wild journey. I sped through this book, and have listened to it multiple times since my first listen.

The Diviners series by Libba Bray (Narrated by January LaVoy)

As soon as I finished this series, I think I nearly cried. Every single book sent shivers through my body because of how well January LaVoy sets the scene of each book and uses her voice to make the magic seem so… real. She encapsulates every single character perfectly, and it’s definitely a series that I will listen to again.

Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson (Narrated by Bahni Turpin)

This is a recent listen for me. I had been meaning to read this book FOR SO LONG, and when I bought the physical copy of the book from Amazon Books in New York, I wanted to read it straight away. But didn’t. I found the audiobook on Audible and realised that ONE OF MY FAVOURITE NARRATORS OF ALL TIME: Bahni Turpin, was narrating it. So, I picked up my physical copy, downloaded the audiobook, and followed along with the narration. Bahni Turpin is an exceptional narrator, she brings tears to eyes, she makes me laugh out loud. Uggghhhhh… I need to meet this woman because I listen to every single book she narrates because she’s perfection.

Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo (Narrated by Jay Snyder, Brandon Rubin, Fred Berman, Lauren Fortgang, Roger Clark, Elizabeth Evans, Tristan Morris, Kevin T. Collins, Peter Ganim)

Wow. Just wow. If the list of narrators there doesn’t inspire you to listen to the audiobook for this duology, then I really don’t know what will (apart from the thousands and thousands of amazing reviews this duology has). At the time of writing this blog post, I’m halfway through Crooked Kingdom, and I love it so much.

Lockwood & Co. series by Jonathan Stroud (Narrated by Miranda Raison, Katie Lyons, and Emily Bevon).

Ok, so here’s the catch. Miranda Raison narrated the first book, Katie Lyons narrated the second, and Emily Bevon narrated the third, fourth, and fifth. I can’t pick which narration is my favourite because I loved all three. Each narrator bought something to the table and added their own little unique spin on the story. This series is enjoyable anyway, but with the narration, it adds a little something that will definitely keep you entertained.

And there we have it. Those are my top 10 audiobooks as of right now. Audiobooks are so special, and right now, if it wasn’t for audiobooks, I would still be in a massive reading slump. I’m constantly listening to new ones, so maybe next year, this list will have completely changed.

What are some of your favourite audiobooks? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time…
