It was my birthday yesterday and I turned 21… I wasn’t excited AT ALL and loads of people kept asking me ‘why?’ I didn’t know, all I knew is that I wasn’t bothered at all for my ‘milestone birthday’. The thing that I was looking forward to, however, was that I knew I was going to be receiving some books off my parents and I wanted to see which ones they had chosen to get me.
So without further ado, these are the thirteen books that I received for my birthday:
This book features characters from The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, and The Dark Artifices – among others – and in this very special illustrated collection, showcases beautiful portraits alongside never-before-known details about all your favourite characters from Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters’ world.
In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers that destroyed her family.
Daughter of executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father’s failed rebellion with her life. Alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted by the Senate and her father’s former comrades. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer and a future she never imagined.
Now Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic – the Red Church. If she bests her fellow students in contests of steel, poison, and the subtle arts, she’ll be inducted among the Blades of the Lady of Blessed Murder and one step closer to the vengeance she desires. But a killer is loose within the Church’s halls, the bloody secrets of Mia’s past return to haunt her, and a plot to bring down the entire congregation is unfolding in the shadows she so loves.
Will she even survive to initiation, let alone have her revenge?
She must become her.
Now one of the galaxy’s most dangerous weapons is masquerading in a world of corruption and Nemesis has to hide her true abilities or risk everything. As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns that there is something stronger than her deadly force: the one thing she’s been told she doesn’t have – humanity. And, amidst all the danger, action, and intrigue, her humanity might be the only thing that can save her, Sidonia and the entire Empire…
In this magnificent reimagining of the form he originated, two stand-alone stories – the first in nearly 400 pages of continuous pictures, the second in prose – together create a beguiling narrative puzzle.
The journey begins on a ship at sea in 1766, with a boy named Billy Marvel. After surviving a shipwreck, he finds work in a London theatre. There, his family flourishes for generations as brilliant actors until 1900, when young Leontes Marvel is banished from the stage.
Nearly a century later, Joseph Jervis runs away from school and seeks refuge with an Uncle in London. Albert Nightingale’s strange, beautiful house, with its mysterious portraits and ghostly presences, captivates Joseph and leads him on a search for clues about the house, his family, and the past.
But when a picture of Stacey passed out over Deacon Mill’s shoulder appears online the next morning, Kate suspects she doesn’t have all the details. When Stacey levels charges against four of Kate’s classmates, the whole town erupts into controversy. Facts that can’t be ignored begin to surface, and every answer Kate finds leads back to the same question: Where was Ben when a terrible crime was committed?
Then Pram meets Clarence, a boy from school who has also lost a parent and is looking for answers. Together, they arrive at the door of the mysterious Lady Savant, who may be able to see ghosts, too… and who promises to help them. But this spiritualist knows the true nature of Pram’s power, and what she has planned is more terrifying than any ghost.
My name is Amy Gumm – and I’m the other girl from Kansas.
After a tornado swept through my trailer park, I ended up in Oz. But it wasn’t like the Oz I knew from books and movies. Dorothy had returned, and she was stealing magic from the land. The Wizard was back, too. Even Glinda could no longer be called The Good Witch. And the Wicked Witches who were left? They had joined forces as the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked. They gave me a mission:
Kill Dorothy.
Except my job as an assassin didn’t work out as planned. Dorothy is still alive. The Order has vanished. And the home I couldn’t wait to leave behind might be in danger.
Now. I have to:
Find Dorothy
Destroy the road of yellow brick
Save my home

We fight for the books!
Our goal: to make people excited about reading To Kill a Mockingbird
Our (somewhat questionable) methods: to make the book disappear (because wanting what you can’t have is the American Way, right?)
What happens (depending on who you ask): a ukulele concert, a cure for cancer, flying caskets, Santa Claus with a big axe, big league home runs, a million conspiracy theories… and a nationwide epidemic of vanishing novels!
We really meant the whole thing to stay small. Or smallish. Or at least manageable. The World Wide Web has different ideas. But we regret nothing! We just didn’t expect it to get so big. Turns out love and books and a bus pass and the Internet are a volatile combination.
Throne of Glass Novellas
Celaena Sardothian owes her reputation to Arobynn Hamel. He gave her a home at the Assassin’s Guild and taught her skills she needed to survive.
Arobynn’s enemies stretch far and wide – from Adarlan’s rooftops and its filthy dens, to remote islands and hostile deserts. Celaena is duty-bound to hunt them down. But behind her assignments lies a dark truth that will seal her fate – and cut her heart in two forever.
